Gideon Ormsby, son of Jonathan and Rebecca (Carpenter) Ormsby, born Sept. 24, 1736. This is the Gideon Ormsby who settled at Manchester, Vt., where he is buried in Dellwood Cemetery (GR)

Genealogy in Bennington County, Vermont, Town of Manchester. In 1853, Zadock Thompson described the town of Manchester as follows: It was first represented in the General Assembly in 1778, by Gideon Ormsby and Stephen Washburn.

"Jonathan Ormsby, Clerk for the proprietors meeting at Amenia, N.Y. in Feb. 14, 1764, was the father of Gideon. He was killed by the smuggling crew of the "Black Snake". (See Crockett's Vermont 3-11.)
